Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai is a development by Emaar covering 500 acres (about 200 hectares). Emaar's plans for the district were reported in 2004; in 2007 the project was listed as Downtown Burj Dubai, with most deliveries then expected in 2009. The district contains Burj Khalifa, which Emaar's community management describes as the world's tallest building, with The Dubai Mall and Dubai Opera on either side of it. Dubai Opera is part of the Opera District; Emaar announced in 2016, before its opening, that it would seat up to 2,000 for a theatrical production. The Dubai Fountain on Burj Lake is described by Emaar as the world's largest performing fountain. Named parts of the district include the Opera District, Burj Plaza and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard. The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station on the Dubai Metro Red Line serves the area; an 820-metre air-conditioned link from the station to The Dubai Mall opened in December 2012.
