«An object opposite Burj Khalifa must be quiet — the main thing here isn't the building, but the view from its windows.»
— EMAAR · 2014 PROJECT BRIEF
By 2012, Burj Khalifa had been operating for several years, and Emaar held a unique asset: boulevard plots with direct views of the tower. Burj Vista was conceived as a 'contemplative residence' — a place whose windows look out at Burj and the Dubai Fountain, while the object itself remains a background. The contract went to Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture — the firm Adrian Smith founded after leaving SOM. This provided stylistic continuity: the same architect who designed Burj Khalifa was now designing a residence opposite it.
