Nakheel is a government-backed developer best known as the creator of Palm Jumeirah, the palm-shaped artificial island. Beyond Palm, the portfolio includes The World Islands, Deira Islands (now Dubai Islands), Jumeirah Village Circle, Discovery Gardens and International City. The company restructured after the 2009 crisis and is again actively launching new projects, particularly on Dubai Islands and the relaunched Palm Jebel Ali (2023).
