Sheikh Zayed Road

Sheikh Zayed Road is the name of the E11 highway within Dubai; The National notes that the road carries different names in different emirates but is designated E11 along its whole length. Gulf News reported in 2007 that the road was earlier known as Defence Road and that the expressway runs 55 km from the Trade Centre Roundabout to the Abu Dhabi border, with nearly 30 km built between 1993 and 1998. The Dubai World Trade Centre opened beside the road in 1979, when it was still a single-lane highway, according to Gulf News. By 2007 the paper described the road as lined with skyscrapers, among them Burj Dubai. Projects listed by CTBUH with a Sheikh Zayed Road address include Burj Azizi, which is under construction next to the Dubai World Trade Centre metro station.
