Dubai Sports City is a master community in Dubai founded by the entrepreneurs Abdul Rahim Al Zarooni and Abdulrahman Falaknaz; ground was broken at Dubailand in 2004. According to Gulf News in 2020, the development covers 50 million sq ft, about a fifth of it given over to sports facilities. Its central venue is Dubai International Stadium, a 25,000-seat cricket ground that hosted its first match, a one-day international between Pakistan and Australia, on 22 April 2009. The International Cricket Council moved its headquarters to Dubai Sports City in 2009, and the ICC Academy is located there. Ernie Els opened The Els Club golf course in 2008, and the Sports Village opened in 2014. Residential neighbourhoods include Victory Heights, a villa community where the first home was handed over in 2008, Canal Residence West and Fortuna Village. Gulf News reported about 17,000 residents in 2020. Other developers have since launched projects in the community, such as Sportz by Danube, a 39-floor tower announced by Danube Properties in 2023.
